Kirinyaga County Gets Security Vehicles Ahead Of General Elections
The government has dispatched 15 police vehicles to Kirinyaga County in a bid to boost security.
Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho said the vehicles that have been provided under a leasing programme will serve the county over the next four years after which they will be reverted back to the state.
The PS further said the 15 vehicles are a part of 1,250 police cars that have been dispatched to the country under the same programme in which the government will cater for their fuelling and maintenance.
The PS added that Kirinyaga was one of the counties that benefited greatly under the programme.
“These vehicles will enable our officers to transverse the county while maintaining law and order. The vehicles will also be helpful during this election season as it will ease transportation for our officers who will help maintain security during this crucial period,” he said.
He called on the officers to make good use of the vehicles to help serve them appropriately within the required time frame.
Kibicho also asked citizens to cultivate a good working relationship with the police by providing any necessary information to boost security.
The PS was speaking in Kirinyaga Central during a ceremony to flag off four of the 15 police cars. He further urged the county residents to maintain peace during the election.
“I urge you to vote wisely. In the course of this week, take time to think through the list of your preferred candidates and assess whether they are worth your votes. Remember you will have a price to pay for voting in bad leaders,” he said.
Kirinyaga county commander Mathews Mang’ira hailed the government for providing the vehicles, saying they will go a long way in serving the officers and the entire county Mang’ira said with the vehicles in place, security would improve tremendously, especially in Kutus and Sagana which have experienced increased incidence of crime.
The police boss further put on notice the criminals destabilizing the peace of the county, saying the police will not relent in finding them and flashing them out from their hideouts. Mang’ira also called on Kirinyaga residents to volunteer in giving information that will be crucial in boosting security. “We want to thank the Ministry through the PS and office of the Inspector General for the vehicles,” he added.
The commander also said the cases of theft reported along Makutano-Sagana-Karatina route have been dealt with and the situation is under control. He urged the public to join hands with security officers by volunteering vital information to assist them in preventing crimes.
