Anglican bishop urges government to lower cost of living as promised
High cost of living has affected Kenyans
The Nakuru Anglican Bishop Dr. Joseph Muchai has called on the new government administration by Dr. William Ruto to lower the cost of living within 90 days as promised. As the prices of basic commodities like maize flour, rice, cooking oil, and kerosene continue to rise, pressure is mounting on the new government to lower the cost of living.
Speaking in Nakuru, Bishop Muchai urged the national and county governments to put more emphasis on food production to ensure the country remains food secure. He thanked Kenyans for conducting themselves in a peaceful manner during and after the election and applauded all the agencies involved in solving the cases that arose from the presidential election successfully.
“The high cost of living is a major challenge to Kenyans, the new administration had promised to work on this, we are therefore waiting for the new government to do this within 90 days as they had stated,” the Bishop said.
Muchai further implored on the national government to work together with the counties to make sure policies aimed at reducing the cost of living are in tandem with those of the counties. He said Kenya is well-endowed with fertile land and a good climate and should be food secure at all times, therefore the government should come up with a policy ensuring Kenya’s food basket is enhanced at all times and that will ease the cost of living.
New fuel prices announced by EPRA on Thursday last week increased the prices of petrol to a historic high of Ksh. 179.30 per litre, while diesel rose to Ksh. 165 per litre.
The high cost of living remains a major challenge to Kenyans, who are crying out to the new government to reduce on the cost of living so as to have a comfortable life on ground.
